The world of JULIANA

A realm to express myself. A reflection of experiences. A place where I can go on writing(typing) for hours until my thirst to tell a story in all its depth & details has been quenched and fulfilled.

Preparations for EASTER NITE …

Filed under: Uncategorized — drjulianarobert at 1:00 am on Friday, March 24, 2006

I realize that not a day passes by without me speaking of EASTER NITE to either my friends/e-mailing someone about it/ or discussing in great lengths with Robz. Hence, to ‘release stress’ , I figured it might be a better idea to pen it all down in ‘ere instead of bugging all my dear ones’ lives with these li’l stories on Praying_handsa day-2-day basis ! OK. To those of you who haven’t a clue on what I’m talkin’  ’bout , here it goes:- ( again!) The church I go to, St Peter’s in Bangsar is organizing a mega-concert ON Easter Day called ARISE & SHINE EASTER NITE.By de way, Easter’s on 16th April. Most of my Christian friends/relatives seem to have plans for that day. However, there are lots of people who haven’t had plans on that day, at least not so far….so if you haven’t got anythin’ else to do, at least CONSIDER comin’ to this event, will ya?

Past bulletins would’ve given you guys a clue that I’m kinda extensively involved in this project. Firstly, let me remind you that tickets are sold at RM 50 per person. Just before you dismiss the thought of comin’ because you think itz a bomb to pay, here’s a few reasons that may make you change your mind :-

1) De food ……..cuisine for de nite will be in ’set-dinner’ style with everyone seated neatly in their respected seats whilst a huge dome with a variety of dishes are arranged on de table. As my friend Shangeetha and I made a count, for vegetarian guests, there are FOUR dishes to choose out of the total number of dishes! Here’s de menu : Briyani Rice, Lamb Chops with salad & dressing, chicken vindaloo, mutton peratal, vegetable kurma, mixed vegetables with fresh prawns, fruits acar . Dessert : paal payasam!! . Drink : Root beer . :-)   . That mouth-watering set of Indian delicacies is definitely value-4-money…wouldn’t you agree with me? *winks

2) De MCs……..hehe…..being the utterly vain person I am, yes yes yes! I’m 50% of de MC group. Ok. That sounded very complicated. Robz and I will be the MCs for de nite.

3) Nalli’s Saree House……ahhh, this is the exciting part. Remember some weeks ago, i posted a bulletin askin’ u guys ’bout sponsorships for clothes for our fashion show event? Guess what folks? We’ve got Nalli’s !!! 2-3 days ago, I collected all our ‘models’ outfits and they’re absolutely gorgeous! Actually our ‘models’ haven’t got a chance to see/try on these outfits. Nalli’s owner’s wife personally selected each outfit based on my description of our ‘models’ !
Tonight, I will be bringing these outfits to church for ‘em to try it on! I bet they’re gonna love the colours, texture, design of each outfit. Ahhh…can’t wait to see the expression on their faces!

4) Excellent music soundtrack………firstly, it ain’t original……of course we compiled our personalized set of musics from all over de world! Our opening introduction for de sound&lite performance is simply spectacular. Don’t miss de musical we’ve added in for our food presentation event! The beauty of this is that the music for each and every event throughout this show  has been meticulously selected by our AV Team which has some of the finest people to work with! We even have a background music for our lucky draw event so that the guests are never bored with utter silence in de background!

5) De kids…..ooooh, guess what they’re dancing to? MACARENA! Yep yep yep….just today, I managed to get a set of clothings, thanks to Aunt Inbam. Aunt Inbam runs a kindergarten and was kind enough to lend us some of her baju. I mean, some of de baju from her kindergarten. They’re so beautiful and striking ‘coz they have pretty vests and they even come with head-bands! Oh yeah, the kids haven’t seen their ‘baju’ and tonight, they will !

6) Hot funky dances……….our youths have years and years of experience of dancing to hot ‘rancak’ songs and these include clips from well-known Tamil movies such as Sivakaasi, Mambo No. 5, etc!

7) Decorations…..we’ve even paid very detailed attention to each corner of de hall so as to make it look like a hotel ballroom on that night! Hmmmm….actually, considering that huge COST-factor in mind, itz kinda difficult to convert the entire hall into a HOTEL ballroom…..but, we’re almost there! We even have a theme colour for de nite…..not gonna let out that secret in ‘ere!

Ahhh…once I have more stories to ‘tell ‘ ’bout Easter Nite, will write more in ‘ere. In my next blog, there’ll be stories on : -
i) de reactions of our ‘models’ upon receiving each outfit
ii ) whether de kids liked their sequined baju or not
iii) how tonight’s rehearsal turns out to be…

Thatz all for now. For all you close friends/cousins out there who have been patiently listenin’ to all my EASTER NITE stories, thanks a million! I know that you’ve just been too polite to tell me ‘ Alrite alrite Julie…..enough about your concert story! U’re boring me to death!!". At least now I have a new ‘horizon to vent out my stress/excitement on this concert’ = my blog!

Have a greattt w’kend folks. God Bless.

Dentist’s Verdict…

Filed under: Uncategorized — drjulianarobert at 4:46 pm on Thursday, March 2, 2006

Dentist2 This is a continuation from yesterday’s blog on de severe toothache. It wasn’t so bad sitting on that ‘dreadful dentist chair’ in de end. As expected, my dentist confirmed that there was indeed a ‘huge cavity in the molar’ staring at him , and because the cavity was so huge, the nerve ends were exposed and that explains the horrifying nite of pain that I suffered. I was given a temporary cotton-based-cemented-over filling for the time being along with some antibiotics. I’ve got to go back to my dentist next week for the permanent filling. Hmmmm…..next week…..well well well….we’ll see how busy/free I am next week. Haven’t made that appointment at the dentist’s yet *winks cheekily

———————————————————————————————————————–
Oh yeah, yesterday evening was significant ‘coz for the first time our ‘home’ had friends for DINNER. All this while, friends come over for a drink, or just a chat, etc. This couple had planned to come over for such a long time (ermmm….since we moved in 5mths ago ) but Robz had been so busy with work and hence, we didn’t have time. Finally, the evening of ‘being a hostess’ arrived. Here’s de menu of our cuisine for the nite …all home-cooked!  :-

1.  Hainanese chicken rice ( you can get that li’l bottle of paste from TMC and it tastes just like the ‘chicken rice’ you buy in shops!)

2  Ginger Chicken (as the name suggests, stir-fry chicken with tiny pieces of ginger with soy-sauce and onions and pepper)

3. Vegetable Soup (added lots of cauliflower, baby corn, carrots and a few pieces of chicken
  for de flavour)

4. Drinks : Fruit punch (aiyah, just ‘campurkan’ cordial juice with ice-cream soda/Sprite!)

5. Dessert : In my ‘healthier’ days, I had planned to make Kesari. However, in view that I still had about 20-30% remnant toothache lingering (Even after that ‘temporary filling’), decided to ’sacrifice’ de dessert dish.  *sigh

Yeahhh, it wasn’t a VERY elaborate dinner, but at least, people did enjoy eating! Even Robz who usually adamantly stays away from rice had 2 helpings of rice! Hehe… It was so much fun laying out the table with the plates/soup bowls/forks/spoons,etc.

Hurrrrayyyyyy, itz Friday today! Tomorrow, my FIRST Piano Class begins. Oh yeah, did I mention that I’m giving Piano Classes in church frm March onwards? Oh gosh, that reminds me, I need to work on the ‘modules’ for my students. There’s a nice mix of children/teenagers/young adults in my group of ’students’! Am looking forward to the class. Would be interesting to see how many people turn up!!

Have a nice w’kend folks!

an evil demon called TOOTHACHE! *Sigh

Being on-call in hospital overnite with not a wink of sleep, very li’l to eat, and having to examine almost a continous flow of patients and work a full working day the next day was bad enough. Or so I thought. Let’s just say I barely survived one of the most horrendous horrifying nights in my entire life of 26yrs. Alrite,  25  1/3yrs!

I knew  it was time to visit my dentist when I started noticing bits and pieces of my tooth falling onto my plate whilst I was munching on some lamb over lunch. That was 3mths ago. Instead, I merely laughed it off then, and even ‘exhibited’ my TOOTH BITS to my ever supportive Dad who was at the table. Being the loving father he is, he just looked at the bits, forced a smile and continued eating without saying a word. Of course being the disclipinarian prim & proper woman my Mom is, she warned me that if I display such ‘items’ at the table again whilst everyone’s eating, I’d be asked to sit outside our kitchen and eat with ….the cats!

Maybe it was that banana leaf meal that I had at 10pm last night. The chicken pieces there might not have been as tender as they should’ve / could’ve been. Errrmmm, yeah, I had chicken on Ash Wednesday. *grins

Ahh, who am I kidding? I knew this dreadful moment of having a ‘dental emergency’ in the wee hours of the morning might arise someday. I just didn’t think it would happen so soon….I tried everything under de moon from painkillers to gargling my mouth with ice-cold-water (don’t ask me why I did that….i was desperate to get the pain off!!). Then, it started radiating thru’ my head. Then, 1/2 my face became ‘numb’ for a moment. Then, it was positional and no matter what position i ATTEMPTED to sleep in, it didn’t work. What’s a helpless poor girl to do when faced with such tormenting excruciating pain? Cry of course! I cried and cried and cried and cried to my hear’t content. Robz felt so sad and he immediately called up the Operator who responsibly connected us to ’some dental clinic in KL town’. The damn phone rang and rang and rang. Obviously, it wasn’t 24/7, uhhh? Even thinking of the pain I went thru’ gets me shivering on this hot hot morning. I promised myself that I’ll do myself a favour and call up the Dental Clinic to make an apptointment this morning. I’d NEVER wanna go thru’ that episode for the rest of my life. Incidentally, just days ago, I read this article on NST that said that only barely 50% of M’sians visit their dentist twice a year. Obviously, I’m in the naughty 50 % group. Boy oh boy…did I suffer the massive consequences of my irresponsible actions. *Sigh

Dentist Time to call up my dentist and sit on that dreadful chair. I’ll keep this blog updated once I’m back from the dentist. Maybe he’d extract my tooth. Maybe he’d fill it up. Arrggghhhh, as long as that pain I went thru’ never comes back again! ………….
